LIFT featured on NPR’s Marketplace

During your evening drive home yesterday, you may have caught a segment on NPR’s Marketplace featuring LIFT – and if you missed it, you can check it out here: “Where To Turn When There’s Nowhere To Turn.” The piece features LIFT-LA Member/Advocate team Iris and Lorraine as part of a series on a new Marketplace-Edison research poll regarding the economic anxieties Americans experience.

The segment features a pilot program started by LIFT-LA to provide small emergency grants to LIFT families to buffer them against unexpected financial blows. Funded by the broader community of LIFT-LA supporters, this new “Member2Member” program is one of many exciting pilots our organization is conducting to better meet the needs of our families and help them break the cycle of poverty. We believe that by trusting our members and wrapping them in social capital and other critical supports, they will make the best decisions for themselves and their kids.
