LIFT-Boston Recognizes Northeastern University and Student Advocates at Open House

On March 31st LIFT-Boston hosted an Open House to celebrate its first month of serving new clients at its new Roxbury center and to recognize the critical role of Northeastern University in the successful launch of the Roxbury expansion.

Members of Northeastern’s administration, faculty, Cooperative Education, Career Services, Community Service, Service and Learning, and Human Service Departments, student volunteers and local community organizations were invited to attend.

LIFT-Boston Executive Director, Maicharia Weir Lytle welcomed and thanked guests for their tremendous support, especially for promoting LIFT throughout Northeastern’s campus, which has resulted in the recruitment of 27 student advocates and an array of referrals from community organizations. She also announced that volunteer Zach Carroll will join LIFT-Boston’s Roxbury office this July as one of two new Site Coordinators/AmeriCorps members. Zach, NEU 2011, started with LIFT-Boston as a full time volunteer last summer and is currently a Student Director in Roxbury. He was extremely influential in laying the groundwork on Northeastern University’s campus to recruit new volunteers and spread public awareness about LIFT-Boston’s presence in Roxbury.

Bob Gittens, Vice President of Public Affairs at Northeastern, also spoke about the successful start to the Northeastern/LIFT collaboration and the benefits to the Roxbury community and the university.

LIFT-Boston would like to thank Tropical Foods Market and the Grove Hall Stop & Shop for their generous donations of refreshments for the event.
