LIFT-Boston Appoints Charlie Rose as New Board Member

BOSTON, MA—LIFT-Boston recently appointed Charlie Rose to its Boston Board of Directors.  Mr. Rose was invited to serve as a Board member because of his record of service and impact in the Boston community for over 25 years as a volunteer, organizer and entrepreneur.

Rose’s dedication to the city’s youth led him to co-found Boston’s nationally recognized violence and gang prevention “Streetworker Program”.  He also founded the Youth Outreach Program, the City of Boston’s Peer Leadership Program, the Festival of Hope, the Citywide Youth Congress, the Boston Youth Olympics and the Youth Worker Alliance.

“Charlie’s vision, outstanding commitment to youth community service, and his professional network will bring innovation and strength to LIFT’s growing presence in Boston. He is a champion of community involvement, which is the cornerstone of our organization,” said Maicharia Weir Lytle, Executive Director at LIFT-Boston.

Rose, a founding Board member of City Year, Inc. where he has led the organization’s development for the last 20 years, now serves as its Senior Vice President and Dean.  He serves on the Board of Directors of Urban Edge, a community development corporation in Jamaica Plain. Mr. Rose also co-founded and co-owns Bella Luna, a Jamaica Plain neighborhood restaurant, and Milky Way Lounge, a for-profit venture which began as a community economic development project.

“I believe strongly in LIFT’s mission and its model to engage college students as client advocates.  It is an organization that fills a critical role in our Boston communities and I look forward to helping guide it to even greater achievement in lifting the neediest in our city,” Rose said.
