LIFT-Chicago

Founded in 2000, LIFT-Chicago is a chapter of LIFT, a nonprofit organization on a mission to break the cycle of poverty by investing in parents. Our one-on-one coaching program empowers parents to set and achieve goals that put families on the path toward economic mobility – such as going back to school, improving credit, eliminating debt, or securing a living wage. In addition to coaching, LIFT parents also receive direct cash infusions to reinvest in their families and goals. We partner with colleges, governments, and health systems to deliver our services across the city.

OUR ADVOCACY WORK IN CHICAGO

Executive Director, Sarah Spunt, co-chairs the Guaranteed Income Community of Practice in partnership with Economic Security IL. In this work, she advocates for cash payments for families.

Recently, Sarah was invited by Mayor Lori Lightfoot to join the City of Chicago’s Advisory Group for the Chicago Resilient Communities Fund. The purpose of the Advisory Group is to advise the City of Chicago on the design and implementation of the $31.5M cash assistance pilot. The pilot will provide $500 per month for one year to 5,000 low-income households. Sarah will use best practices and lessons learned from our own Family Goal Fund to advise the City’s design and implementation phases of the pilot.
